Autodesk CAD Overlay for AutoCAD Release 14 Ships Today; Autodesk Users Enter New Era in AEC with Object-Based Tools.

SAN RAFAEL San Rafael (săn rəfĕl`), residential city (1990 pop. 48,404), seat of Marin co., W Calif., a suburb of San Francisco on the northern shore of San Francisco Bay; inc. 1913. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 1997--Extending the powerful imaging capabilities in AutoCAD(R) Release 14, Autodesk today announced that the International English International English is the concept of the English language as a global means of communication in numerous dialects, and also the movement towards an international standard for the language. It is also referred to as Global English, World English, Common English, General English.  version of Autodesk CAD Overlay(R) is shipping in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Employing the power of Autodesk's object-oriented ObjectARX(TM) technology, while building on the image support capabilities in AutoCAD Release 14-based software, Autodesk CAD Overlay provides customers with new and powerful tools for image viewing, editing and manipulation.

This new and enhanced product, an upgrade from Softdesk(R) 8 Imaging Special Edition CD, gives customers a tightly integrated, object-oriented imaging solution for all types of projects, including land surveying, land planning, transportation and infrastructure design, and environmental and natural resource management. In addition, AutoCAD Release 14 and AutoCAD Map 2.0 customers can edit and manipulate images with more control using Autodesk CAD Overlay.

Many AutoCAD Release 14 and AutoCAD Map 2.0 customers have paper drawings that need to be viewed, edited and/or converted into a computer-aided design computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), form of automation that helps designers prepare drawings, specifications, parts lists, and other design-related elements using special graphics- and calculations-intensive  (CAD) drawing.

Autodesk CAD Overlay enhances the raster capabilities that are inside AutoCAD Release 14 allowing architects, surveyors, resource managers, mappers, civil engineers, process and power professionals, HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free , electrical, plumbing, and structural engineers; and professionals in the construction industry to more effectively insert scanned images, such as legacy drawings, hand-drawn sketches or digital color photographs into a CAD drawing, making their work easier, faster, more cost-effective, and accurate.

New Features and Benefits

The latest and most powerful version of Autodesk's imaging products, Autodesk CAD Overlay, now includes advanced capabilities, including rubbersheeting, which lets customers accurately stretch images after scanning; geo-referenced image insertion, which lets users automatically place images at correct spatial coordinates; raster editing and manipulation, which lets customers edit and manipulate raster with the ease of use normally associated with vector data; and semi-automatic raster/vector conversion, which converts raster entities to lines and polylines.

Autodesk CAD Overlay also simplifies the management of digital images inside AutoCAD Release 14 and AutoCAD Map 2.0 by including Raster Entity Manipulation (REM), which lets users work with raster entities more easily, as if they behaved like vectors.

Advanced ObjectARX(TM) Technology

Autodesk CAD Overlay leverages the power of ObjectARX technology for digital image viewing, editing, and manipulation. ObjectARX technology lets Autodesk CAD Overlay customers manipulate and edit images within the object model.

ObjectARX technology provides the foundation for design software applications to share intelligent object data. As part of Autodesk's overall interoperability strategy, ObjectARX is the platform for Autodesk's A/E/C implementation of selected Industry Foundation Classes (IFC (Internet Foundation Classes) A class library from Netscape that provides an application framework and graphical user interface (GUI) routines for Java programmers. IFC was later made part of the Java Foundation Classes (JFC). See JFC, AFC and AWT. See also ICF. ), as defined by the Industry Alliance of Interoperability (IAI IAI Infection And Immunity (journal)

System Requirements To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.

Autodesk CAD Overlay requires AutoCAD Release 14 or AutoCAD Map 2.0. These Autodesk products operate with Microsoft Windows See Windows.

Minimum hardware requirements are an IBM-compatible 486/66 PC and 32MB RAM (minimum for Windows 95). Recommended hardware configuration is a Pentium or Pentium Pro computer with 32 MB RAM and at least 50MB for hard disk installation.

Availability and Pricing

Autodesk CAD Overlay is available today in International English in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Asia/Pacific, and it will also be shipping in Europe in the upcoming months. Translated versions of Autodesk CAD Overlay will be available in Asia/Pacific and Europe in the upcoming months.
