NZNO's Niue Relief Fund, set up in February to help in rebuilding the island nation after the devastation of Cyclone Heta Cyclone Heta was a powerful Category 5 tropical cyclone that caused catastrophic damage to the islands of Tonga, Niue, and American Samoa during late December 2003 and early January 2004. , raised $18,000. Relief fund co-ordinator Eileen Brown said nurses in Niue requested the portable autoclave for use in the temporary hospital and $3000 of the fund was used to purchase it. Medical supplier EBOS EBOS E-Business Operating System provided the autoclave at a discounted price. The autoclave was transported to Niue early this month by Niue MP in charge of Cyclone Heta Recovery Committee, Bill Motufoou, pictured above with nurse Joy Millar. Millar will travel to Niue in June and inform NZNO of local needs. |
