AutoProf Announces Competitive Upgrade to Profile Maker 7 from ScriptLogic.

Business/Technology Editors

PORTSMOUTH, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2002

AutoProf to discount current ScriptLogic customers 50% on their upgrade to Profile Maker 7; cites Profile Maker's Architecture, Security and Extensive Outlook Capabilities

AutoProf announced today the immediate availability of a 50% discount off of its Profile Maker 7 software, for current ScriptLogic license holders. ScriptLogic 4 causes several network security problems including unauthorized administrative access; problems which many CIOs may find untenable. CIOs that may be unaware of this utility running on their networks are advised to check with their staff or ScriptLogic's customer list at http://www.scriptlogic.com/eng/customers.asp.

In order to give ScriptLogic the opportunity to address these problems, AutoProf alerted them of the situation on June 21, 2002, one month prior to posting a comparison whitepaper - which details these problems - on the AutoProf website. However, neither the subsequent release of ScriptLogic version 4.01 nor the patch versioned 4.02 have effectively addressed these problems, even though the latter version apparently attempted to do so. Concurrent to this release, AutoProf has made this whitepaper available on its website.

ScriptLogic 4 causes several network security problems including unauthorized administrative access. The first problem allows network users administrative access to the local Windows registry The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system . The second problem allows network users to become administrators of all domain machines that have previously run the ScriptLogic 4 RunAdmin client service. The third problem grants all users (the "Everyone Group" by default) full access to a network-shared folder In a graphical user interface (GUI), a simulated file folder that holds data, applications and other folders. Folders were introduced on the Xerox Star, then popularized on the Macintosh and later adapted to Windows and Unix. In Unix and Linux, as well as DOS and Windows 3.  on a ScriptLogic 4 domain controller.

AutoProf cites other reasons for desktop management customers upgrading to Profile Maker, including Profile Maker's:

-- Extensive Outlook functionality - integrated with the Active Directory and Exchange Server; includes literally hundreds of settings

-- AutoDeskTop(TM) - includes drive mappings A letter or name assigned to a disk or tape drive.
