Auto-By-Tel, an Internet-based company, refers customers to its network of 1,400 U.S.-based dealers that are dedicated to offering low, competitive pricing on new cars and trucks. Auto-By-Tel has been in business since March 1995 and has literally changed the landscape of new-car purchasing.

Numerous forward-thinking Canadian automotive dealers have signed onto the Auto-By-Tel program and will benefit from the anticipated 50,000 Canadian Auto-By-Tel customers that submit purchase requests by the end of 1996.

Auto-By-Tel's Canadian users have already given the program rave reviews. Toronto-resident Sheryl Johnson Sheryl Ann Johnson (born December 9, 1957 in Palo Alto, California) is a former field hockey player and coach from the United States, who was a member of the national team from 1978-1991 and was a three time Olypian.  exclaimed: ``I was totally impressed. The Auto-By-Tel dealer did not try to sell me up to a more expensive vehicle.

``Not only did I get all the features I wanted at the price I wanted to pay, but I also got more -- including a sunroof and automatic transmission. There was no pressure and the whole deal was handled over the telephone. My parents are looking for Looking for

U.S. users have cast their votes by submitting more than 100,000 new-car purchase/lease requests in Auto-By-Tel's first year of business. Expectations are that more than 300,000 U.S. users will submit purchase requests in 1996.

Not only have U.S. consumers embraced this cutting-edge process for purchasing new cars and trucks at no-haggle prices, but U.S. auto dealers have also benefited from the program's focus on the expanding techno-savvy market.

``Dealers have been selling cars the same way for over 75 years, and Auto-By-Tel is focused on training dealers how to reinvent themselves for the customer of the next century.''

Ellis continued: ``Our first year of business in the U.S. was one of rapid expansion -- consumer demand for the ABT program accelerated faster than we originally anticipated. With that in mind, we're positioned to meet a similar demand from value-conscious Canadian consumers.''

A recent automotive industry report(a) credits Auto-By-Tel's success with high-volume selling and low operating and marketing costs.

The report goes on to state that ``technology will play a pivotal role in separating car retailing winners from losers over the years ahead,'' and suggested that ``franchised dealers that wish to survive will advertise on the Internet and embrace a low-cost business model to compete more effectively on price, as advocated by...Auto-By-Tel.''

The Auto-By-Tel program is simple to use. First, consumers are encouraged to research their vehicle of choice by using whatever means at their disposal -- sources on the Internet, new-car magazines, etc.

Then, users submit a purchase/lease request to Auto-By-Tel (located at www.autobytel.com on the Internet) which is sent to a subscribing dealer who follows up within 48 hours with low, competitive pricing. The program costs the consumer absolutely nothing and can save him thousands of dollar.

Additionally, Auto-By-Tel has attracted the attention of more than 200 high-visibility magazines, newspapers and television networks, including NBC Nightly News NBC Nightly News is the flagship evening news program for NBC News and broadcasts from the GE Building, Rockefeller Center in New York City.
