WALTHAM, Mass. -- Consolidated Information to Help Employers Welcome Employees Returning from Active Duty

This information will help employers provide details of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and communicate policies regarding military service and reintegration into the workplace. Every week, the number of National Guards and Military Reservists placed on active duty continues to rise. As of November 3, 179,594 members were deployed. Following the attacks of September 11th, nearly a quarter million members of the National Guard and Reserves have been called to full-time active duty. This is the largest sustained deployment since the Second World War. While employers have been able to easily accommodate typical Guard or Reserve deployments, the current global conflicts have resulted in longer tours not anticipated by many businesses. Companies are working hard to successfully reintegrate returning Guards and Reservists into the workplace, but the nature of today's deployments presents new challenges.
