The Freedom Trail Foundation today announced that David McCullough has been named the recipient of the 2003 Boston Patriot Award. The Award, established by the Foundation in 1999 is given annually in recognition of work that supports and celebrates Boston's historic legacy. Past recipients include Congressman J. Joseph Moakley, Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Philanthropist Thomas M. Kershaw and American Express American Express (NYSE: AXP), sometimes known as "AmEx" or "Amex", is a diversified global financial services company, headquartered in New York City. The company is best known for its credit card, charge card and traveler's cheque businesses.  Senior Vice President and Heritage Tourism Executive, Erven S. Samsel. McCullough will be honored at a black-tie gala to be held at the Omni Parker House The Omni Parker House Hotel is a hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, currently owned by Omni Hotels and named the Omni Parker House. Located on School Street near the corner of Tremont, not far from the seat of the Massachusetts state government, it has long been a frequent  on October 27th.

McCullough, whose work has been praised for its exceptional narrative sweep, scholarship and insight into American life, is twice winner of the National Book Award and twice winner of the prestigious Francis Parkman Francis Parkman (September 16, 1823 – November 8, 1893) was an American historian, best known as author of and his monumental seven volume France and England in North America.  Prize. He has also received two Pulitzer Prizes for his monumental presidential biographies Truman (1993) and John Adams (2002).

For his work overall, the West Tisbury, Mass. native has been honored with the National Book Foundation Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award, the National Humanities Medal The National Humanities Medal honors individuals or groups whose work has deepened the nation’s understanding of the humanities, broadened citizens’ engagement with the humanities, or helped preserve and expand Americans’ access to important resources in the , the St. Louis Literary Award, the Carl Sandburg Award, and the New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 Public Library's Literary Lion Award.

McCullough's other books include The Johnstown Flood, The Great Bridge, The Path Between the Seas, Mornings on Horseback, and Brave Companions.
