Authentium's SafeCentral Protects Users from Massive DNS Flaw.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Authentium announced today that its flagship SafeCentral secure-browsing service, a solution proven to protect users from DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the  security flaws, keyloggers, and other desktop spyware, provides effective protection from a recently uncovered flaw affecting millions of DNS servers.

The DNS flaw was highlighted in a presentation made at the Black Hat security conference on Thursday by Dan Kaminsky, who discovered the vulnerability. The vulnerability allows "cache poisoning" attacks that could be used to send Internet users to malicious sites and hijack e-mail or online transactions.

"The problem is as big as the Internet, which makes it difficult for consumers to protect themselves. There is no easy way that a consumer can tell if their Internet connection can safely deliver them to authentic banking and shopping destinations. "Our SafeCentral service uses a patent-pending method to leapfrog over compromised DNS configurations and provide secure name service look-ups for web site requests. This method offers unprecedented protection to Internet users, without requiring daily updates and confusing settings screens. In our demonstrations to banks and the security press, it never fails to impress."

In his review, Rubenking aggressively tested Authentium's claims of SafeCentral security, including a test to corrupt his local DNS. His conclusion: "IE and Firefox were totally fooled, but the SafeCentral browser brushed aside my amateur hacking." SafeCentral also thwarted his attempts to capture account credentials and passwords using the most sophisticated keyloggers available.
