Services to Secure Electronic Documents Using Qualified Time Stamps

(NASDAQ:ADAT) announced today that it has implemented its automated document security services at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour (BMWA) to enable usage of its secure electronic document processing solution, which is compliant with the stringent German and European signature laws and directives. Using the AuthentiDate services, the Federal Ministry can convert existing paper based document processing to electronic document processing, without the need for storing additional paper documents.

AuthentiDate's innovative modular solution design enables the Federal Ministry to easily implement additional digital signature solutions and to integrate existing legacy systems at low cost and less effort - a substantial benefit for German ministries and government authorities attempting to achieve the goals of the German government initiative "Bund Online 2005," which seeks to convert the document processing systems applied in numerous transactions from paper to electronic by 2005.

In its current implementation, the Federal Ministry installed AuthentiDate's centralized and automated service, which provides qualified time stamps, compliant with German and European signature laws and directives, to process legally secure electronic documents and data files. This solution consists of software and services provided by AuthentiDate.

While financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, AuthentiDate stated that revenue will be generated from initial implementation fees and recurring license and transaction fees.

The internal Federal Ministry time stamp service will be integrated into its new document workflow and archiving system to ensure legally binding verification that electronic data has not been tampered for a minimum period of 30 years. This process is guaranteed by AuthentiDate's certified time stamping service, thereby eliminating additional cost-intensive storage of paper originals. In addition, the centralized Federal Ministry time stamping service offers this functionality to be used as an electronic federal postmark for Germany for incoming and outgoing electronic documents (eMails).

Using AuthentiDate's solution, all electronic workflows at the Federal Ministry can now be automatically documented through centralized electronic signature generation capabilities. The AuthentiDate solution provides the Federal Ministry with the ability to verify data integrity and record all internal document processing and external communications for a document's life cycle. This provides a substantial benefit to the Federal Ministry by simplifying its existing document processing system. Due to the centralized implementation, all relevant time stamp and signature processing occurs at the server side. Therefore, there is no need to separately train the individual users.

The generation of qualified time stamps, which are the most secure kind of time stamps as defined by the stringent German and European signature laws and directives, occurs within AuthentiDate's Trust Center, which has been accredited by the German Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts.
