Today AuthenTec, the leader in advanced biometric semiconductor technology, announced the availability of its new FingerLoc(TM) Embedded Developers Kit (EDK). Based upon AuthenTec's newest FingerLoc AFS8500 fingerprint sensor and Texas Instruments (TI) advanced TMS320C5509(TM) DSP, hardware developers can quickly and easily integrate low cost fingerprint security solutions into a number of new and innovative products.

Targeted specifically for embedded security systems, AuthenTec's FingerLoc EDK allows developers to get fingerprint authentication security solutions quickly to market. The EDK contains a ready to run biometric fingerprint evaluation system complete with schematics, software and documentation. Powerful biometric fingerprint matching software and Application Program Interface (API) Library are also included. The EDK runs as a stand-alone matchboard or can be integrated as part of a complete hardware security system. Design engineers now have access to a powerful and highly accurate fingerprint matching sub-system with a Bill of Material (BOM) cost of less than $50 (10,000 piece quantities).

AuthenTec FingerLoc sensors are based on TruePrint(TM) technology, its patented subsurface technology, which allows for fingerprints to be read below the surface of the skin, thereby eliminating any acquisition or recognition failures relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

contamination such as dirt, grime, dry skin or excessive moisture -- issues that are problematic with all other surface imaging fingerprint sensors.

An integral component to the EDK is TI's C5509(TM) DSP. Its high performance, integrated SRAM See static RAM.

to extract high quality fingerprint images under the most demanding environmental situations. Its advanced power management features also allow extremely low overall power consumption of 250 microamp hours per usage for typical systems. (See http://www.ti.com/sc/rd/C5509bm)

"TI's flexible architecture and DSP instruction set performance make AuthenTec's new EDK possible," said Ram Sathappan, manager of TI's biometrics business unit. "By introducing DSP into this market, TI offers manufacturers and system integrators new capabilities to further develop the biometrics industry."

"The integration of TI's DSP technology plus AuthenTec's new FingerLoc sensor onto a single circuit board enabled us to offer a highly integrated EDK," said Jeff Lee, Director of Product Marketing. "Now OEMs in the consumer access control markets can integrate advanced fingerprint biometric features with superior performance for a very low cost."

The FingerLoc Embedded Developers Kit will be available in late June 2002. The FingerLoc EDK supports AuthenTec's complete line of FingerLoc sensors including the AF-S2 as well as the new AFS8500. AuthenTec also provides a complete range of evaluation kits and reference designs to help companies integrate its TruePrint technology fingerprint sensors into a number of applications including Access Control, PC/PC Mobile, Wireless, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  and Automotive products.

About AuthenTec

AuthenTec is a leading semiconductor company providing advanced biometric fingerprint sensors to the PC, wireless, PDA, access control and automotive markets. AuthenTec's FingerLoc and EntrePad product families utilize the Company's patented TruePrint(TM) technology, the first technology capable of imaging everyone under virtually any condition. TruePrint images below the surface layer of the skin to the live layer where the true print resides, thereby eliminating surface-level contamination issues. AuthenTec's products are the choice of leading industry hardware and software providers, ensuring compatibility across multiple platforms Refers to two or more operating environments, which typically include the CPU family and operating system. For example, if versions of a program run on Windows and the Macintosh, the software is said to support multiple platforms.  and applications. Based in Melbourne, Florida, AuthenTec has assembled a global network of partners, solution providers and customers including Texas Instruments, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Delphi Automotive, Acer, Synaptics, Asus, Harris Corporation and SCM (1) (Software Configuration Management, Source Code Management) See configuration management.
