Australian child care group purchases 74 more U.S. centres.


Australian ABC Learning ABC Learning Centres Ltd. is an Australian company that is the world's largest provider of childcare services. It is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation of $2.5 billion as at March 2006.  Centres purchased Texas-based provider Children's Courtyard, for $US 66 million.

Children's Courtyard operates 74 centres in Texas with the capacity for 12,000 children.

With this acquisition, the number of US centres owned by ABC Learning expands from 343 to 417, an increase of 21 per cent.

ABC is headed by Canadian Eddy Groves, and currently owns 697 child care centres in Australia and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. .
