Australian Government Enlists Teradata to Fortify Territory Borders.


SYDNEY, Australia -- The Australian Customs Service The Australian Customs Service is the Australian Federal Government agency responsible for managing the security and integrity of the Australian border, facilitating the movement of legitimate international travellers and goods, and collecting border related duties and taxes.  (Customs) has chosen Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (company) NCR Corporation - Electronics company mainly active in the midrange server market.

Customs required a high-speed, stable solution and sophisticated analytics processes. The deal includes two NCR 5400 servers as the production system, two NCR 4980 servers for disaster recovery, a development node and a maintenance support service package over a five-year period. Ross Perot (independent candidate for the President of the U.S. in 1992), EDS is the largest outsourcing and data processing services organization in the country.  to implement the project.

The proposed solution is designed to process historical and continuous amounts of data, and conduct the complex analytics necessary to interpret the data and trigger immediate action. In addition to performance and flexibility, other features offered by Teradata include the ability to continually query while loading data to support real-time updates, the ability to search across any field and any record at any time, strong security, and minimal ongoing administration and support with 99.9 percent availability.
