Australia Shines in Prestigous U.S. Awards.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1999--

Australian cities, hotels and holiday destinations have outshone some of the most famous in the world in a prestigious U.S poll, Australian Tourist Commission Regional Director, Lyndel Gray said today.

Commenting on the results of Conde Nast Traveler magazine's annual readers' awards Ms. Gray said in the past three years, Australia has received many awards and accolades, making it one of the most celebrated destinations in the world. Australian tourism destinations and businesses were setting a global standard for excellence.

Ms. Gray said the vote of confidence and popularity signalled continued tourism growth from the vital American market. In the twelve months to August 1999 400,000+ U.S visitors came to Australia, up 12 per cent on the previous year.

"We're enjoying excellent growth from this market not just because of Australia's high profile, but because we deliver on the promise of an unforgettable holiday," she said. "Every Australian, from the taxi driver taxi driver ntaxista m/f

Two Australian cities ranked in the Conde Nast Traveler top five list of foreign cities. Sydney, host city for the 2000 Olympic Games Olympic games, premier athletic meeting of ancient Greece, and, in modern times, series of international sports contests. The Olympics of Ancient Greece
