Austin Computer Systems announces partnership with Softex, Inc.

Latest notebooks to ship with Softex's Power Management &

PC Card Controllers for Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  

Austin Computer (Austin Computer Systems, Austin, TX) A PC manufacturer founded in 1985 by Robert Diwan that sold a full line of PCs via direct marketing and through the dealer channel. Softex's Power Management Controller for Windows NT features a user interface/power management icon for detailed control of power features, CPU-idling for maximum power (battery) savings by slowing or stopping the processor clock during idle periods, suspend time update capability for accurate system time after the notebook has been resumed from suspend mode, and Win32 software API compliance to Windows NT for Power Management Aware applications capability. Implementation features include: APM (Advanced Power Management) A programming interface (API) from Intel and Microsoft for battery-powered computers that lets programs communicate power requirements to slow down and speed up components. Softex's PC Card Controller improves on the default Windows NT support by adding a true socket and card services interface, hot plug support for PC Cards, a better user interface, power management support for PC Cards and more user level functionality. The Controller functions on both Windows NT 4.0 as well as Windows NT 3.51.
