This once-in-a-lifetime gathering will take place at the Austin Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications' (AWC Austin) 75th Anniversary Gala and Diamond Champagne Fundraiser. The event will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2004, to celebrate 75 years of the organization's work to cultivate and advance women in the field of communications. The Gala will take place at the new Hilton Austin Hotel.

The Diamond Gala will celebrate Austin's history in communications while honoring some of AWC's most precious gems from the past 75 years who have told the stories of our times and impacted Austin's history. The event will honor communicators such as Liz Carpenter Elizabeth "Liz" Sutherland Carpenter (born September 1, 1920 in Salado, Texas) is a writer, feminist, former reporter, media advisor, speechwriter, political humorist, and public relations expert. , Anne Durram Robinson, Gene Waugh, Pam Baggett, Patti DeNucci, Kerry Tate, Cathy Bonner, Joanne Scarborough and Ernestine Wheelock, among many more. Each of these women has broken down barriers in the field of communications while contributing to Austin's reputation of being one of the most creative cities in the country.

The Diamond Anniversary Gala will include a Diamond Champagne fundraiser with proceeds supporting AWC's Joe Caldwell Joe Louis Caldwell (born November 1, 1941 in Texas City, Texas) is a retired American professional basketball player. He spent 6 seasons (1964–1970) in the NBA and 5 seasons (1970-1975) in the now-defunct ABA, and he was one of the few players to be an All-Star in both  Meyer scholarship fund. A Jewelry Box Auction will also take place where personalized, decorated jewelry boxes by local celebrities, politicians and media will be auctioned off at the event on September 18 with proceeds benefiting a local non-profit.

The Diamond Anniversary Gala will include a unique video presentation; an elegant dinner; and entertainment by The Newsboyz and the Mike Kasberg Quartet. Tickets are $75 and are available now by visiting www.awicaustin.org.
