Aussie players to delay Indian travel plans after attacks


Cricket Australia Cricket Australia, formerly (and still often referred to as) the Australian Cricket Board, is the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in Australia. It was originally formed in 1905 as the Australian Board of Control for International Cricket Matches.  has moved to delay the travel plans of Australian cricketers to India for next week's Champions Twenty20 League in the wake of militant attacks which have killed up to 100 people in Mumbai.

"Given the circumstances, Cricket Australia has put an immediate halt on any cricket-related travel to India," the organisation said in a statement on Thursday.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting has backed CA's decision, saying the attacks have caused "massive concern" within his team.

"That has been the whole talk around the breakfast room this morning and certainly even at the start of training (the talk) was about this incident," Ponting said ahead of Friday's second Test against New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  at Adelaide Oval.

"It goes to show the level of concern that we're showing towards it.

"They (CA) have said that any cricket travel has been cancelled at the moment. I think that's definitely the right decision right now.

"Those travel plans could change pretty quickly as well. We'll just wait and see what happens."

In the group phase of the eight-team tournament, Victoria are scheduled to play at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium on December 3 against English side Middlesex and the following day against India's Chennai Super Kings, whose team contains Australian stars Hayden and Hussey.

Western Australia play all three of their preliminary-round games in Bangalore.

Indian champions the Rajasthan Royals, captained by Warne and featuring Australian all-rounder Watson, play the Sialkot Stallions at Brabourne Stadium on December 5 and two other matches in Bangalore.
