Aussie actor loses fight for 'Skippy' profits

 "Skippy the Bush Kangaroo Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was a popular Australian television series for children produced from 1966 to 1968. Ninety-one 30-minute episodes were made over the three seasons of production. " on Wednesday lost a court battle for hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits from the show.

Tony Bonner
, who played ranger and helicopter pilot Jerry King Jerry King is a cartoonist. He has received the National Cartoonist Society Magazine Gag Cartoon Award for 2001 and was nominated for their Gag Cartoon Award and Magazine Gag Cartoon Award for 2002.  in the popular 1960s children's show, took Fauna Productions to court claiming he had missed out on a reasonable share of the profits.

Bonner was seeking a 750,000-dollar (600,000 US) pay-out for residual profits generated by the show, including sales of merchandise and DVDs.

But Supreme Court Justice Ian Gzell dismissed the case, finding Bonner had no rights to the show's earnings.

"Under the (employment) agreement Mr Bonner assigned to Fauna the sole and absolute rights throughout the world to all results and proceeds of the services rendered by him," Gzell said.

"There was no incurrence of expenditure for which Mr Bonner was not paid, nor did he perform work for no consideration."

"Skippy", which screened in Australia between 1966 and 1968, was one of the country's earliest cultural exports.

It followed the exploits of kangaroo kangaroo, name for a variety of hopping marsupials, or pouched mammals, of the family Macropodidae, found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea. The term is applied especially to the large kangaroos of the genus Macropus.  Skippy, her young owner Sonny and the rangers of the Waratah National Park, and was shown in more than 80 countries.
