3000 MicroLCD (1368x1024 resolution) was selected by Samsung (www.samsungelectronics.com) as the display component for its new 43" LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) A technology used to make microdisplays for rear-projection TVs and head-mounted displays (HMDs). Each LCoS chip hosts a grayscale LCD shutter sandwiched between a cover glass and a mirror.  rear projection TV/monitor. The set, which is being developed jointly by Samsung and Aurora, is powered by Aurora's new driver, IC ASI 3100. The unit will have all standard TV, HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  and PC monitor functions integrated: picture-in-picture, progressive video, HDTV compatible, computer RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. Aurora's ASI 3000 MicroLCD and ASI 3100 Driver form the highest resolution MicroLCD/Driver chip combination available from Aurora Systems to date. By building on the same technology that is used in the ASI 2000/ASI 2100 XGA (EXtended Graphics Array) A screen resolution of 1,024x768 pixels. The term stems from IBM's XGA display standard introduced in 1990, which extended VGA to 132-column text and interlaced 1,024x768x256 resolution. XGA-2 later added non-interlaced 1,024x768x64K.  chip set, the higher resolution ASI3000/ASI3100 combination was successfully utilized in late 2000, and is designed to display images at W-SXGA resolution, i.e. 1368 x 1024 pixels on a device with a 0.97" diagonal.

Both the MicroLCD and Driver incorporate the latest state-of-the-art techniques to produce a high performance chip set for high-quality projection applications. The MicroLCDs come in three panels (red, green and blue), each optimized for maximum performance. When used in a high performance optical engine, the system will produce high-brightness, high-contrast, 24-bit color images at W-SXGA resolution.

Samsung unveiled the new rear projection 43" TV/monitors at the Society for Information Display (SID) show, June 4-7, in San Jose, Calif. and showed the unit again at INFOCOMM 2001 June 13-15, in Las Vegas.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global electronics company committed to the digital age, was founded in 1969.
