Aurora Networks' Node PON Solution Successfully Integrates with DOCSIS Provisioning Technology.

DENVER -- Aurora Networks, Inc., announced today that it successfully integrated its Node PON[TM] platform with Sigma Systems' Device Provisioning Manager for DOCSIS([R]) equipment provisioning and activation. This is a significant achievement demonstrating that cable operators can leverage the same OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. It is a significant industrial center. Aurora Networks, the only optical transport solution provider focused on delivering a cost-effective, optimized platform for next-generation cable services, will demonstrate the collaboration in its booth (No. 10096) at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo([R]) 2009, October 28-30 in Denver. At the event, Aurora Networks will showcase its Node PON technology working with the Device Provisioning Manager for DOCSIS([R]) provisioning from Sigma Systems, a leading global provider of Advanced IP Service Fulfillment solutions for the cable and telecom industries.

The companies recently conducted a successful DOCSIS([R]) provisioning trial utilizing Sigma System Device Provisioning Manager and Aurora's Node PON OLT and GEPON GEPON Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network

devices, confirming that Aurora Networks' Node PON solution is compatible with legacy DOCSIS([R]) provisioning technology.

The testing also verified the capabilities of Aurora Networks' AUROS[TM] software platform, which enables the company's PON solutions to integrate seamlessly with a cable company's OSS as well as its service provisioning and billing infrastructure. AUROS allows the same infrastructure that supports a cable operator's DOCSIS([R]) plant to support a GEPON network, enabling a Node PON OLT module to be provisioned, configured and monitored much like a typical cable modem termination system A cable modem termination system or CMTS is equipment typically found in a cable company's headend, or at cable company hubsite and is used to provide high speed data services, such as cable internet or Voice over IP, to cable subscribers.  (CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) A computerized device that enables cable modems to send and receive packets over the Internet. It inserts IP packets from the Internet into MPEG frames and transmits them to the cable modems via an RF signal. ).

"A cable operator doesn't need to reinvent the wheel every time when it comes to provisioning OSS. With AUROS, the same infrastructure that supports the DOCSIS([R]) plant can also support a new GEPON network," said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing, Aurora Networks. "The successful test of our Node PON system with Sigma Systems' DOCSIS([R]) provisioning solution shows that this type of solution is real and is available today to cable operators."

The Sigma Systems Device Provisioning Manager automates provisioning and activation of DOCSIS([R]), SIP and FTTx devices, which enables operators to more easily manage their service offerings, and cost-effectively scale as their subscriber base grows. The Device Provisioning Manager allows operators to auto-configure and provision both business and residential end-user devices.

Aurora Networks' Node PON technology allows cable operators to cost-effectively evolve their networks and expand bandwidth capacity in an effort to battle other communications providers delivering similar services. The company's Node PON module can be included in the configuration of an optical node for one of several architectures, including HFC 1. (networking) HFC - Hybrid Fiber Coax.
2. (hardware) HFC - hydrofluorocarbon.
, Fiber Deep and RFPON.
