Aurora Medical Center CEO Sylvia Young Named Aurora Economic Development Council 2005 Chair.

AURORA, Colo. -- The Medical Center of Aurora President and CEO Sylvia Young has been named chair of the board of the Aurora Economic Development Council (EDC). Young succeeds Brian Burke, Principal of Brian W. Burke and Associates.

Founded in 1976, Aurora EDC is a public/private partnership dedicated to enhancing the economic strength of the city of Aurora by recruiting new primary employers, retaining existing primary employers and assisting current primary employers to expand in the city.

The Aurora EDC board of directors consists of business and government leaders from throughout the metropolitan area. Board members provide the organization with strategic direction and oversight of business development efforts within the city and help manage the organization's collaborative efforts with regional economic development partners.

As chief executive for the Medical Center of Aurora, Young oversees three health services campuses that employ more than 1,500 health care professionals.

Young's professional accolades include being named Aurora Chamber of Commerce's 1997 Business Person of the Year as well as receiving the American College of Healthcare Executives' Regent's Award for Outstanding Hospital Administration in 1998. She was selected as one of Denver Business Journal's Outstanding Women in Business for 2002 and was named Corporate Woman of the Year in 2003 by the Women's Vision Foundation. Young is included in the Denver Business Journal's annual list of Who's Who In Health Care.
