Aurora Introduces the Enhanced SMART Media Converter(TM) Solution to Meet Demands of Commercial Customers.

SANTA CLARA Santa Clara, city, Cuba

 density, expanded the management options, and further improved the reliability of its family of enhanced SMART Media Converter A device that converts from one type of media to another. It typically refers to a hardware device that connects different transmission media; for example, from twisted pair to coax or from twisted pair to optical fiber.  modules. The enhanced modules enable cable operators to deliver Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  and Fast Ethernet services over fiber, using any of 15 CWDM (Course WDM) An optical transmission method that is used for shorter distances than dense WDM (DWDM). Also known as "wide WDM," CWDM transmits fewer channels and uses wider spacing between the channels for distances up to 60 km. Wider spacing up to 25 nm, compared to 1.  wavelengths. This 50% increase in capacity helps cable operators satisfy the rapidly growing high-speed data appetites of their commercial customers. The solution also supports delivery of commercial T1/E1 and cellular backhaul services.

Enhancements to the SMART Media Converter modules include:

* Support for 15 CWDM wavelengths

* High-density, dynamic CPE enclosure with redundant powering

* Unified CPE form factor and flexible mounting options

* Common modules for both the chassis and CPE applications

* Gigabit modules that utilize small form-factor pluggable (SFP SFP Small Form-factor Pluggable (optical transceiver module)

* Bandwidth rate limiting function

* MEF-9 and MEF-14 compliance

Aurora designed its SMART Media Converters specifically for the cable industry, focusing on the total solution, including reliability, ease of deployment, simplified maintenance, reduced cost of sparing and remote management. The result is a cost-effective solution that enables cable operators to offer competitive services for a variety of commercial customers, including educational institutions, medical campuses, and industrial parks.

"Serving commercial customers is an enormous revenue opportunity for cable operators to exploit. At Aurora we have developed a family of high-speed, Ethernet-based solutions, including our SMART Media Converter product line to meet the most demanding requirements of cable's commercial accounts," said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing for Aurora Networks. "The launch of our latest Media Converter products exemplifies Aurora's commitment to leadership through continuous innovation and customer satisfaction."
