Aura Networks to Deliver Last Mile Optical Ethernet Solutions to Service Providers; Receives $16M in Funding to Drive New Strategy.

Business/Technology Editors

NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 2000

Aura Networks, Inc. announced today a major strategic initiative to deliver superior, metro access optical Ethernet solutions to service providers. Aura also announced that it has received $16 million in growth funding from Sierra Ventures to support this initiative. Sierra is a private, venture capital firm based in California, focusing on pre-public communications, software and Internet infrastructure companies.

Leveraging its 10-plus years in the electrical-to-optical connectivity market, Aura Networks is harnessing the combined power of Ethernet and fiber optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber  technology to deliver a highly affordable, reliable and manageable metro access provisioning solution for linking service providers to the customer premise. This advanced technology, called Stealth IP(TM), results in a future-proof family of products providing instant service provisioning, remote test capability, flexible bandwidth management Controlling the traffic flow in a network. "Traffic in the public network is growing dramatically each year, causing increasingly unacceptable network performance, particularly in the last mile," said Alex Saunders, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.
