August 22, 1995: Larry Flynt, not just another hustler.

Of all the characters connected to events surrounding President Clinton's impeachment, none was more unexpected than publisher Larry Flynt. In fact, Flynt's pledge to expose hypocrisy by giving $1 million to anyone providing information on the extramarital sex lives of members of Congress was one of the factors that sent House speaker-elect Bob Livingston packing in December. Flynt promised to publish in January the names of other politicians who, like Livingston, have had adulterous affairs.

Based on what he told The Advocate in 1995, it doesn't sound as if Flynt would be too surprised if his current investigation turns up a closeted congressman or two. "I think the potential is there for everyone to be gay," Flynt said. "I'm not gay. I prefer women. But I can relate to homosexuality. I can understand why people are gay. I think it's a preference that should be accepted in society.... It's like preferring blonds over brunets. I don't see the emotional issue that we've made it into."
