Audiovox Communications Corp. Begins Shipping TDM 2500, Company's First TDMA Digital PCS Telephone.

Audiovox Communications Corporation (ACC), a majority owned subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation (AMEX: VOX) today announced that it has begun shipping its new TDM 2500 digital handsets, the company's first entry into the TDMA digital marketplace. The first orders are shipping now to select carriers deploying TDMA technology in the U.S. and South America.

Also available in a champagne gold face plate known as the TDM 2500XL, the TDM 2500 and TDM 2500XL operate on 1900 MHz, 800 MHz IS-136A and 800 AMPS networks. Few wireless handset manufacturers offer a dual-band, tri-mode phone. With TDMA technology, Audiovox is able to provide its customers with a phone that economizes on bandwidth; allows easy integration with PCS service; maintains superior quality of voice transmission over long distances; is difficult to decode; can use lower average transmitter power and ensures voice privacy.

Lightweight at just 6.2 ounces, the Audiovox TDM 2500 is packed with cutting edge technology, starting with a menu-based interface and a user-friendly multi-function key to access voice mail and message retrieval, call-back frequently called numbers and a one touch key for emergency dialing.

Operating in the TDMA mode, the phone provides 140 minutes talk time (210 minutes with the upgrade 1500 MAh NiMH battery) and 100 hours standby (180 hours with the upgrade battery). In analog, the TDM 2500 provides 80 minutes of talk time (130 minutes with the upgrade battery) and 15 hours standby (25 hours with the upgrade battery).

Other attractive functions include a large, 4 line x 14 character LCD Display, Last Number Redial, Memory Location Combined Function, Talk Time Display, 32 Digit Dialing and 99 Alpha Numeric Memory Locations, Short Message Received and Storage Indication as well as Voice Privacy and Auto Answer. The phone displays four different languages, including English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Optional accessories include an extended life 1500 MAh Nickel Metal Hydride battery, a desktop charger and an earpiece microphone for hands-free use.
