Audiovisual training session opens in Tunis.


TUNIS, Nov. 10, 2009 (TAP) - A training session on writing techniques The literature on journalling and creative writing has generated various writing techniques to encourage self-discovery and self-expression for those who may wish to expand their techniques or address issues of writer's block.  for radio and television was opened on Tuesday in Tunis, in the Tunis-based African Centre for Re- Training of Journalists and Communicators (CAPJC).

Experts in the audio-visual sector from AWO member countries, namely Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Jordan, United Arab Emirates United Arab Emirates, federation of sheikhdoms (2005 est. pop. 2,563,000), c.30,000 sq mi (77,700 sq km), SE Arabia, on the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. , Bahrain, Sudan, Syria, Sultanate of Oman, Egypt, Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq, are taking part in this session which is due to last till next November 13.

The session aims to help participants edit specialised radio and TV material on women and evaluate those achieved in this field.

This initiative is part of the information strategy devised by AWO to contribute to the promotion of a true and balanced image of Arab women and thus show their active contribution to comprehensive and sustainable development.

On the occasion, Women, Family, Children and Elderly Affairs Minister Sarra Kanoun Jarraya underscored keenness of Mrs. Leila Ben Ali, wife of the President of the Republic and AWO chairwoman, to consolidate and enrich the Organisation's action programmes, so as to promote women's image in the media.

She recalled, in this regard, Mrs. Leila Ben Ali's suggestion to award a prize for the best journalistic production on Arab women.

For her part, AWO Director-General Wadouda Badrane pointed out that the Arab women's information strategy targets notably conception of an objective and balanced Arab media discourse and endeavours to disseminate women's rights The effort to secure equal rights for women and to remove gender discrimination from laws, institutions, and behavioral patterns.

The women's rights movement began in the nineteenth century with the demand by some women reformers for the right to vote, known as suffrage, and
 and consolidate their position in society.

She commended Mrs. Leila Ben Ali's interest in the organisation's activities and her constant support to the programmes aimed to promote Arab women's situation.

For his part, Director of UNESCO Regional Board in Beirut Abel Monem Othman laid emphasis on the Organisation's commitment to support efforts exerted in the field of protection of women's rights, and to introduce them at larger scale.

He pointed out, in this regard, the importance of media in stepping up these efforts and disseminating a radiant women's image, one that mirrors their contribution in all fields.
