Audio/Video Manufacturers Move Toward Cost-Efficiency with Integration of Analog/Digital Technologies.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 1996--In the current video and audio production environment, manufacturers are now offering different solutions in response to the special requirements of the end-user (job) end-user - The person who uses a computer application, as opposed to those who developed or support it. The end-user may or may not know anything about computers, how they work, or what to do if something goes wrong. .

in the market, end-users are becoming increasingly concerned about the equipment configuration in their facility or site.

With this in mind, Frost & Sullivan announces the release of its most recent report on: U.S. VIDEO AND AUDIO POST PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT MARKETS.

Today, many manufacturers have chosen a hybrid analog/digital technology environment to allow options for future equipment strategies. Manufacturers now have to provide such analog/digital devices in order to maintain their position in the marketplace. By interfacing and integrating new and existing technology, manufacturers are establishing their image as a valuable partner who understands the requirements of the market environment and its end-users.

The growing importance of the U.S. video and audio production equipment market is reflected in the market volume which accounted for more than $2 billion in 1995. The size of the market is expected to rise continuously as an increasing number of industrial end-users join in the demand for video and audio production equipment.

In 1995, sales of video production equipment contributed to 86 percent of the total market as revenues amounted to more than $2 billion with a projected annual growth rate of 13 percent until 2002. This growth is related to the increasing transition from analog to digital video technology. In addition, continuous advances in disk technology for sophisticated video applications is expected to result in the transfer from tape to disk in the recording media.

The Frost & Sullivan market report includes the following video production equipment in its forecast: studio, video cameras, portable video cameras, camera control systems, video routing switchers, video production switchers, video tape recording systems, videodisk recorders and filters. The video disk recorder VDR (Video Disk Recorder) is an open source application for Linux designed to allow any computer to function as a digital video recorder, in order to record and replay TV programming using the computer's hard drive.  market is the segment with the highest growth expectations. However, digital tape recorders tape recorder, device for recording information on strips of plastic tape (usually polyester) that are coated with fine particles of a magnetic substance, usually an oxide of iron, cobalt, or chromium. The coating is normally held on the tape with a special binder.  will continue to maintain a sustained position in video production applications despite loosing some market penetration Noun 1. market penetration - the extent to which a product is recognized and bought by customers in a particular market
penetration - the act of entering into or through something; "the penetration of upper management by women"
 due to disk technology.

The audio production equipment market is expected to generate an annual compound growth rate of more than 14 percent until 2002. Audio products in this report include: digital open reel A reel of magnetic tape. It typically refers to half-inch open reels that still remain in the archives of many data libraries. In the 1950s, before the 8-bit byte, 7-track tapes (seven parallel tracks) were used to accommodate a 6-bit character plus parity.  recorders, digital modular multi-track Multi-track may mean:
  • Multitrack recording, the process of mixing individual sound sources to a single recording
  • Multi-track diplomacy
  • Audio CD/DVD discs containing multiple tracks (songs).
tape recorders, professional audio mini-disk recorders, digital hard-disk recorders and microphones.

The audio production equipment market reflects the continuous transition between tape and disk recording systems. As the sound performance and quality of digital technology improves, end-users are now expected to increase their purchasing volume.

Digital open-reel equipment is massively affected by this purchasing pattern as it will lose a substantial market share in the future to digital hard-disk and profession Mini-disk. These technology applications are benefiting from their random access feature and high-storage capability.
