Audavi's HardTape(R) Cartridge to Replace Aging Tape as Rugged Data Storage and Transport Solution for U.S. Navy Application.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Audavi Corporation today announced that the Navy has selected its HardTape Cartridge for use in the E-2C Mission Information Software Transfer System (MIST). The HardTape cartridge and accompanying 50-pin narrow SCSI HardTape bay provide a form, fit, and function replacement for the 8-mm tape drive that had reached "end-of-life". The HardTape cartridge & bay combination is used to load new software data (i.e. updated MAPS, airways, air routes, Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS JTIDS - Joint Tactical Information Distribution System) Network Loads, Special Interest I-Files, etc.) into specific software partitions within both Mission Computer and Advanced Control Indicator Set Operation Flight Programs.

The HardTape cartridge utilizes state-of-the-art small form factor disk drive technology to provide a high capacity, high performance storage device in a ruggedized package that can survive the rigors of fleet transportation and distribution systems. More importantly, Audavi's unique 50-pin SCSI bay provides a plug compatible Hardware that is designed to perform exactly like another vendor's product. A plug compatible CPU runs the same software as the machine it's compatible with. A plug compatible peripheral works the same as the device it's replacing. interface to the existing legacy narrow SCSI data bus, so that no additional hardware or software changes are required. This is a significant advantage when the systems to be upgraded are deployed with the fleet around the world.

"Removable media is an integral part of many military and government systems, for both data transport and security reasons," says Mike Bergkamp, CEO of Audavi. "Unfortunately, many of these existing applications, either tape or hard drive, were designed with the narrow SCSI interface SCSI interface - SCSI adaptor which is no longer supported by new storage media product offerings. Our SCSI HardTape bay allows for a plug compatible form, fit, function replacement of the obsolete SCSI tape or disk drives and allows the use of COTS disk drive technology in our HardTape cartridges to extend the useful life of the legacy systems."
