Attractive incentives for foreign investors exist in Pakistan: Senator Waqar.

Islamabad, August 10, 2009 (Frontier Star): Federal Minster for investment senator Waqar Ahmed khan said that Pakistan is a land of immense investment opportunities and we are offering attractive incentives to the foreign investors. He was talking to the ambassador of Maldives, her Excellency Dr.Aishath Shehnaz Adam, who called on the minister at his office, cabinet block on Monday Federal minister apprised the ambassador regarding new investment initiatives of the present government. He said that, we are on the road to the economic stability. Law and order situation has improved significantly. We had successful military operation which has increased the investor's confidence multifold. Government is committed to eliminate the menace of terrorism and security of foreign investors will be ensured at any cost. Federal minister further said that ministry of investment is religiously working to facilitate the foreign investors and our liberal investment policies are attracting potential investors across the globe. We had 48 Bilateral Investment Treaties with various countries and we are in the Process of negotiating BITs with a number of countries including USA, Germany, Saudi Arabia, ECO countries etc, we will cordially welcome such initiatives from Maldives investors as it will further strengthen bilateral ties. Senator Waqar Ahmed khan apprised the ambassador regarding new proposed investment policy and shared its salient features with her. We are establishing SEZ, s (special economic zones) where special incentives will be given to the investors including tax relaxation up to ten years. We are attracting foreign investors to invest in Power sector, Manufacturing, Agriculture (food processing and farming), Oil and gas, Infrastructure development and many other sectors, minister added. Ambassador congratulated the minister on successful military operation in swat and its adjoining areas. She hailed the initiatives taken by the ministry of investment for the protection of foreign investors. And also assured full cooperation, by the republic of Maldives in political and economic sphere.
