OLYMPIA, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 2000

We are disappointed by today's decision but we obviously respect the Court's opinion.

We will review today's opinion to determine whether an appeal is appropriate. But within the office, it is time to move on from the regrettable and unfortunate incidents that led to the jury verdict against the Department of Social and Health Services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract . The Attorney General's Office has learned a very tough lesson and has accepted responsibility for the missed appeal. We will do everything we can to avoid this from happening again.

When we learned of the missed deadline in the Beckman appeal, we took immediate action to 1) request an extension of time for the appeal from the Court of Appeals and 2) to have an independent investigation of the circumstances to determine how this could have happened. We called for immediate measures to prevent such a situation from recurring re·cur

We will continue to do everything we can to represent the citizens of this state professionally and effectively to ensure justice is done.
