Attention shoppers.

Attention Shoppers: Santa Monica Place closed for a multimillion-dollar renovation that will turn it into an open-air complex by the fall of 2009. As part of the renovation, which is slated to start in about a month, the roof will be lifted off the complex and the top floor will be turned into a food court, with shops on the two lower levels. The 28-year-old mall's anchor tenant, Macy's department store, will remain open throughout the construction period. Santa Monica-based Macerich Co., which owns the property, said it was time for the Frank O. Gehry-designed mall to better exploit its location near the beach and the Third Street Promenade.
