Transfusions are performed to replace a substantial loss of blood and as supportive treatment in certain diseases and blood disorders. If so, you may be eligible to participate in a medical study being conducted by doctors at the University of California campuses in Davis and San Francisco. The researchers are studying whether blood cells from a person who donates blood can survive for many years in the body of the person who received blood. This study may help the researchers better understand the effects of blood transfusion and details about how the immune system works. Participation involves having your blood drawn at a local laboratory. The researchers are reimbursing participants $50 for their help with this study.
