"Our TERA-POINT fixed wireless services are finally going to give frustrated DSL and cable customers an alternative to the endless delays, slow speeds and poor customer service they have been forced to endure for far too long."

TERA-POINT Wireless, a subsidiary of eSAT Inc., will initially offer businesses in Los Angeles three service plans based on length of contract with a two-year service contract offering data speeds of up to 8 Mbps in full-duplex, meaning same data rates both up and down the channel, for $399 per month with installation and hardware included.

"Through TERA-POINT, we are offering customers a solution that is robust enough, flexible enough and responsive enough to meet virtually anyone's needs."

Elliott added that with TERA-POINT's strategically placed site locations throughout Los Angeles, the company's coverage area would initially service areas of high demand, especially among the numerous Internet-related companies that have sprung up along the Digital Coast.

"We believe the time is right to offer these services and believe our first mover status in the Los Angeles market and focus on the business sector is a sound strategy," Noblett said.

"In addition, our network management solutions and satellite capabilities give us the unique ability to extend the reach and offer comprehensive services to Internet-related businesses in Los Angeles looking to tap into overseas and other regional markets that they can't access today."

Of the estimated 4.8 million commercial office buildings in the U.S., only one percent has access to last-mile fiber -- the distance between the business or home and the telephone company's central office. While DSL and other land-based services often lack the infrastructure needed to go the last mile home, wireless service completely bypasses this local loop.

According to research firm Jupiter Communications, upwards of 65 percent of the U.S. population cannot subscribe to any two-way, high-speed service. Wireless access represents a significant first mover advantage in markets where the installed wireline infrastructure is not adequate yet to fully provide two-way, high-speed data services.
