Attendance soars at FEI Canada conference.


More than 500 financial executives attended FEI FEI

 the Wave," held in Halifax on June 6-8, making it FEIC's most successful conference ever.

In addition to educational content, attendees enjoyed golfing at Glen Arbour, as well as various local activities and social events. The closing luncheon--featuring the former Canadian Ambassador to the U.S., Frank McKenna,--was lauded by many as the highlight of the conference. Besides the attendees, almost 200 local business leaders attended the closing lunch.

Also this year, long-time FEI Quebec member Robert Normand was honored with the inaugural Frank S. Capon capon

castrated male fowl, larger than broiler, weighing up to 7 lb; produced either by administration of estrogenic substances or by surgical excision of the testicles.
 Distinguished Service Award, and Michael Gibbins and Bradley Pomeroy of the University of Alberta received the first CFERF (Canadian Financial Executives Research Foundation) award.

Continuing a tradition of celebrating excellence, the conference opened with Canada's 2006 CFO See Chief Financial Officer.  of the Year Karen Maidment (of BMO Financial Group) speaking on "New Vistas for CFOs."

Featuring more than 40 speakers, keynote sessions included: "Competing in a Global Economy," by Dan Fortin, President, IBM Canada Ltd.; "Regional Base, Global Operations," moderated by Michael Conway, Managing Director of Stratcon Ventures Inc.; "A CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Perspective on the Role of Financial Executives," by John Risley, President & CEO of Clearwater Fine Foods Inc.; and "Expanding Into China," by Annette Verschuren, President, The Home Depot Canada and Asia.

Next year's conference is being planned for June 9-11, 2008 at Jasper Park Lodge The renowned Jasper Park Lodge opened in 1921 in Jasper, Alberta to challenge the CPR's Banff Springs Hotel.

The lodge was first established in 1915 as a "Tent City," in association with the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, but by the 1920s the property was under the management
. Conference dates for the following years have been set: May 27-29, 2009, in Montreal; and June 10-12, 2010, in Victoria, BC.
