Attendance at First Pri-Med Midwest Conference Tops Five Thousand.

More than 5,000 primary care practitioners attended the first Primary Medicine Today (Pri-Med) conference in Chicago June 16-19. Pri-Med Midwest became the fourth in an annual series of medical conference that also includes Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Long Beach, CA.

"With the addition of Chicago and total annual attendance now approaching 25,000, Primary Medicine Today has become the largest medical conference in the U.S. for general practitioners," according to John Mooney, chief executive of sponsor Hill Holliday Exhibition Services. "The number of participants in Chicago exceeded our expectations."

Designed and conducted by faculty from Harvard Medical School and the University of Chicago, Pri-Med Midwest offered a three-day program of continuing medical education (CME) courses focused on actual cases and problems across the major sectors of clinical practice. The conference also included an exhibit of new advances and therapies by 115 pharmaceutical, medical technology and medical software companies.

"Participants spend an average of more than five hours on the exhibit floor, and rank the opportunity to review new products and therapies among their primary reasons for attending Pri-Med," Mooney said. "More than two out of three participants also attend one or more industry-sponsored symposia."

Pri-Med Midwest will next be held in Chicago on June 21-23, 2001.
