The day long, 11th Annual Investment Capital Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27, 2004 from 7 AM to 7 PM at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel The Westin Bonaventure Hotel is the largest hotel in Los Angeles, California, USA. This year's keynote speakers include Alfred E. Mann, Chairman-Emeritus and Founder of MiniMed, Inc. and currently Chairman and Founder of Mannkind Corp.; Rick Hayes, Senior Investment Officer of CalPERS, who manages its $20-plus billion portfolio of private equity, venture capital and hedge fund hedge fund, in finance, a highly speculative, largely unregulated investment device. Originating in the 1950s, the funds "hedge" by offsetting "short" positions (borrowing a security and then selling it at a higher price before repaying the lender) against "long"  investments; and Reed Hastings Reed Hastings (Wilmot Reed Hastings, Jr.) was the founder of Pure Software and the founder of Netflix.
