The woman was a former member of Saddam Hussein's Baath party whose two sons joined al-Qaida and were killed by Iraqi forces. -Nov. 4, 2007: A woman detonates explosives next to an American patrol near Baqouba, wounding seven U.S. troops and five Iraqis. -July 23, 2007: A female suicide bomber kills two policemen and wounds 10 at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Ramadi, 70 miles west of Baghdad. The belt was hidden underneath her conservative Muslim dress. -June 5, 2007: Guards foil a suicide attack in eastern Baghdad, gunning down a black-clad female bomber approaching a group of police recruits and causing her explosives to detonate. -April 11, 2007: A woman wearing an explosives vest strapped underneath her conservative black robe blows herself up in the midst of 200 Iraqi police recruits, killing 16 and wounding 33 in the town of Muqdadiyah. -Feb. 25, 2007: A female suicide bomber triggers a ball bearing-packed charge, killing at least 41 people and wounding at least 46 at a mostly Shiite college in Baghdad. -Dec. 6, 2005: Two women detonate strapped-on explosives in a classroom filled with students at Baghdad's police academy, killing 27 people. -Nov. 9, 2005: A 38-year-old Belgian convert to Islam, Muriel Degauque, detonates explosives near a U.S. patrol. She traveled with her husband to Iraq through Syria. -Oct. 11, 2005: A female suicide bomber detonates an explosives-packed vehicle near a U.S. military patrol in Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad. It was not known whether the blast caused any casualties. -Sept. 30, 2005: Iraqi troops intercept a woman strapped with explosives heading for a Baghdad market to carry out a suicide bombing. -Sept. 28, 2005: A female suicide bomber attacks an Iraqi army recruitment center in Tal Afar, about 90 miles east of the Syrian border, killing six people and wounding 30. Witnesses said the attacker wore men's clothing as a disguise and detonated her hidden explosives while standing in line with job applicants. -April 15, 2003: Two female suicide bombers carry out an attack that killed three coalition soldiers at a checkpoint northwest of Baghdad. Coalition forces said one women was pregnant. -March 2003: Four women are captured in a town south of Baghdad before they could detonate the explosives belts they were wearing.
