Attacked man's family may sue.

Byline: ANIQA HAIDER

THE family of a Bahraini man, who died of brain haemorrhage a week after two men attacked him, are considering filing a case against the hospital over alleged negligence.

They claim that the life of Ahmed Qambar Ghuloom, aged 46, could have been saved if he was diagnosed and treated on time.

The 46-year-old was admitted to the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC SMC Saint Mary's College

However, he was released three days later after doctors could not diagnose diagnose /di·ag·nose/ (di´ag-nos) to identify or recognize a disease.

He was admitted to the SMC again last Monday, but was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning at the Accidents and Emergency Department, where he was kept under observation.

"As the family is still coming to terms with his death, we can't make up our minds," said Mr Ghuloom's brother Yaqoob.

"I spoke to all the family members and after a long discussion, most of them suggested filing cases against both the doctor and the hospital.

"When we took him to the hospital for the first time, doctors were unable to diagnose any serious injuries.

"But when we went there for the second time, the x-ray showed internal bleeding.

"Doctors said it was minor and he could have survived, if treated on time. All the family is so sad to know the actual story."

SMC chief-of-medical staff Mohammed Al Awadhi said that he had no knowledge of the case and that he would look into it once he receives a complaint.

Mr Ghuloom was walking to a cold store in Muharraq when two young men started taunting him.

Yaqoob claimed that the two men fled the area after they noticed he was too weak to reply to them.

Mr Ghuloom was lying there for sometime when some people spotted him and called for an ambulance,

One of the men has so far been arrested, while the other remains at large, the victim's family told the GDN GDN Garden (postal suffix)

Yaqoob claimed that doctors told the family that the condition was caused by the attack.

Mr Ghuloom was buried in Muharraq cemetery cemetery, name used by early Christians to designate a place for burying the dead. First applied in Christian burials in the Roman catacombs, the word cemetery came into general usage in the 15th cent. .

Mr Ghuloom worked as a mechanic for Muharraq Municipality, but retired in 2002. He leaves behind three brothers and four sisters.
