Attack in Central African Republic kills 10


Ten people have been killed in an attack on the town of Birao in northeast Central African Republic Central African Republic, republic (2005 est. pop. 3,800,000), 240,534 sq mi (622,983 sq km), central Africa. The landlocked nation is bordered by Chad (N), Sudan (E), Congo (Kinshasa) and Congo (Brazzaville) (S), and Cameroon (W). , a former rebel group said Monday, but an army source reported six wounded.

Armed men on Sunday attacked a base of the former Union of Democratic Forces for the Rally (UFDR) rebels, two weeks after a similar attack, UFDR spokesman Djarnib Ngrebaye said.

At the time, the army, former rebels and residents said at least 27 people were killed in ethnic clashes.

Birao is about 800 kilometres (500 miles) northeast of Bangui in Vakaga province, near the borders with Chad Chad (chăd, chäd), Fr. The town has already seen ethnic fighting among the Goula, Kara Kara (kär`ə), river, c.140 mi (230 km) long, NE European and NW Siberian Russia. It flows N from the N Urals into the Kara Sea, forming part of the traditional border between European and Asian Russia. It is navigable in its lower course.  and Ronga tribes, as well as bloody land disputes.
