Last night distraught mum Sharon,of Prestatyn, hailed Alan a hero for saving his brother's life, but criticised dog owner Madeline Condliffe for not using a muzzle. Mrs Hannah said: ``I am livid livid /liv·id/ (liv´id) discolored, as from a contusion or bruise; black and blue. liv·id adj. this was able to happen. It is ridiculous. Unemployed mum Miss Condliffe,of Tros y Felin,Bryn Du, yesterday admitted the dog,Ben,had bitten before, but insisted it was always in a ``friendly'' and ``playful'' way. The dog has been put down after the attack in Bryn Du, near Rhosneigr, Anglesey on Friday. Anthony was left with 24 bites all over his body, including one on his chest four inches long and more than two inches wide. Large areas of skin were ripped from his back and chest. Speaking from Ysbyty Gwynedd, where Anthony underwent more surgery yesterday evening,Mrs Hannah,43, said: ``Anthony is lucky to be a live. I am just so thankful he is still here, but he was in theatre for much longer than I expected him to be. He seems to be in a worse state than he was on Friday night. ``I am in a state of total shock. I have had to leave the hospital a couple of times to have a cry before going back to see him.'' The dog also bit Miss Condliffe's 13 year - old daughter Hannah. Mrs Hannah said: ``Anthony put up a fight but if it wasn't for Alan he would be dead - there is no doubt about that. Alan saved his life - he is a hero and we cannot thank him enough. ``Alan was bitten on the back but we didn't know about that until much later because he was more concerned about his brother.'' Chantelle managed to escape without getting attacked. Dog owner Miss Condliffe,45, said she was shocked Ben attacked the children and was ``very upset'' at what happened to Anthony. She said: ``The dog has been no problem to anyone. I couldn't understand how it came to happen because he loved kids and has been brought up with kids ever since he was a puppy. ``But I have eight pups here which are his and I told my daughter not to let anyone in while the puppies are here because he would get jealous. ``He was only 18 months old and had never attacked or bitten anyone before. He had a tendency to catch people or to nip you with a friendly bite, but he has never done any damage like this. ``I never used a muzzle and I never thought about it because I knew he was OK with kids. He was not vicious. ``But I said we would have the dog put down because once a Staffordshire tastes blood that is it.'' CAPTION(S): Anthony Hannah recovering from his injuries in hospital.
