Attachmate signs letter of intent to acquire Wollongong.

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1995--Attachmate(R) Corp., the leading supplier of software for building corporate Intranets, today announced it has signed a letter of intent to acquire The Wollongong Group Inc., a technology leader in object-oriented, internetworking software.

Wollongong is based in Palo Alto, Calif.

According to Attachmate, the acquisition is part of the company's ongoing strategy to help organizations implement company-wide Intranets. The technologies of both companies emphasize an object-oriented architecture, opening the door for development of future Intranet products that will transparently access corporate host data and the Internet, as well as providing TCP/IP internetworking and collaborative computing functionality.

Attachmate currently offers industry-leading host access software with its EXTRA!(R) Personal Client family, which utilizes revolutionary Web-like navigation to access applications and databases residing on corporate host mainframes, AS/400's, and UNIX servers from Digital, HP and others.

The company has been expanding this offering with its leading-edge collaborative product -- OpenMind(R) -- which provides Intranet/Internet conferencing, publishing and document management functions. Both object-oriented products allow corporations to build sophisticated internal Webs while providing complete interactivity with public Internet users and resources.
