BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1998--Attachmate, the leading provider of host access management solutions, today announced support for the Microsoft(R) Visual Studio(TM) 6.0 development system in the 2.2 release of its Attachmate(R) HostPublishing System.

With this version, web developers and corporate developers can quickly and easily incorporate mainframe and AS/400(R) data into HTML HTML

, browser-based applications. As corporate interest in extending host data to new user populations continues to grow, developers require tools enabling deployment of new applications in the shortest time possible. Attachmate HostPublishing System provides both web developers and developers using Microsoft Visual Basic(R) with the tools to quickly bring host data to the web.

By employing this automatic navigation, Attachmate removes the complexity and tedious nature of host communications programming (HLLAPI (High Level Language Application Program Interface) An IBM programming interface that allows a PC application to communicate with a mainframe application. The hardware hookup is handled via normal micro to mainframe 3270 emulation. ), enabling web developers to easily and intuitively incorporate host data into their browser-based applications.

Intelligent Navigation. Included with Attachmate HostPublishing System are the field-proven intelligent navigation and direct database access technologies, which integrate host screen and DB2(R) database information into new web applications. The intelligent navigation piece allows developers to automatically record screen navigation through the host, treat the recording as an object, and integrate that object into native web development tools. Attachmate HostPublishing System provides direct access to DB2 and DB2/400(TM) data using standard ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network.  drivers. Attachmate HostPublishing System supports all industry-standard gateways, including the Attachmate SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974.
