Users can create and re-use as many configuration profiles as required. These profiles can easily be distributed to any other user. Through the X Application Manager, KEA! X allows users to easily define and save the settings needed to launch an X application from a remote host. This simpler, more elegant solution eliminates the need for complex and cumbersome remote administration.

KEA! X leverages Attachmate's expertise in KEA! 420 and KEA! 340, market leaders in VAX (Virtual Address eXtension) A venerable family of 32-bit computers from HP (via Digital and Compaq) introduced in 1977 with the VAX-11/780. VAX models ranged from desktop units to mainframes all running the same VMS operating system, and VAXes could emulate PDP models (R) and UNIX UNIX

To this impressive list of capabilities, Attachmate adds its world-class support -- making KEA! X 3.0 the premier Windows PC An x86-based computer that runs some version of Windows. "KEA! X gives us the X Windows connectivity we require while avoiding the administrative and configuration headaches usually associated with this type of solution," said Brad Caldwell of Software Development Corporation. "KEA! X lets us leverage our existing equipment. We're running it under Windows 95 and NT -- without it, we would have to purchase additional UNIX systems Noun 1. . Its easy configuration and management place KEA! X ahead of other solutions we've looked at."

KEA! X 3.0 supports X11R6, the latest industry-standard X specification. With this support, KEA! X users are assured full capabilities and all functions including fonts and colors. KEA! X 3.0 provides many features that increase the product's ease-of-use and manageability while maximizing the installation's investment in legacy systems and X Windows applications. These features include:

-- Installation and configuration - by making use of an intuitive Windows-standard interface, KEA! X provides simple and fast installation and easy configuration from a single tabbed configuration dialog box A movable window that is displayed on screen in response to the user selecting a menu option. It provides the current status and available options for a particular feature in the program. . KEA! X eliminates the need for sophisticated remote administration. It allows users to store multiple configuration profiles, empowering users to launch X applications with the look and feel they require. A simple file copy to the KEA! X installation directory will restore custom settings.

-- X Application Manager - KEA! X allows users to launch multiple X applications with point-and-click Windows functionality. These applications can be on different hosts and use different remote execution methods. Each Application Manager profile can use a different configuration profile.

-- Easy migration to 32-bit technology - As corporations migrate users to Windows 95 and Windows NT, KEA! X provides the flexibility to move at their own speed with full support of Windows 95 features. The KEA! X 3.0 CD contains both 32- and 16-bit products providing an easy migration path with no additional investment.

-- Multi-instance support - KEA! X allows several X Windows sessions to run simultaneously, each with a unique configuration. This feature becomes increasingly important as X Windows applications integrate with other environments such as Windows application A program that is written to run under Microsoft's Windows operating system. Such applications typically run under all 32-bit versions of Windows, but earlier applications might also run under the 16-bit versions (Windows 3.x) as well. See Windows.  servers.

-- Scripting and OLE automation See COM automation.  - KEA! X leverages the full scripting and OLE capabilities of previous KEA! products. This capability allows users to create custom execution of X applications via menus, SmartPads, and dialog boxes. OLE automation allows application development utilizing components of the KEA! emulation engine through tools such as Visual Basic(R).
