Attachmate Corporate Headquarters Expanding to Accommodate Growth; Letter of Intent Signed With Bentall to Expand Bellevue, Wash. Campus.

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1997--Attachmate Corporation, the second largest software company in Washington, and Bentall, USA L.L.C. have signed a letter of intent for additional space in Newport Corporate Center, expanding the software company's campus by 50 percent.

Scheduled for completion in April, 1999, Bentall will break ground for the 145,000 square foot building in March, 1998.

"With Attachmate's continuing growth, we've had to be creative with our space usage, now requiring additional space in our fourth building in Newport Corporate Center," said William Boisvert, executive vice president at Attachmate. "This expansion will allow us to be far more effective in our physical placement of people, enabling us to place teams together for greater efficiency. We're also very excited about the campus-like environment Bentall has planned, which is ideal for Attachmate's culture as well."

Bentall recently acquired the properties in Newport Center from Vyzis. "One reason Bentall purchased the Vyzis portfolio was its entitled land," says Gary Carpenter, chief operating officer of Bentall's U.S. Division. Currently there are five buildings in Newport Corporate Center, with entitled land for an additional 450,000 square feet. "Attachmate's commitment gives us the assurance of success with this project and gives us an opportunity to review our plans for the other buildings planned for the site," says Carpenter.

Newport Four, the name of the new building, is a six-story structure built over five levels of structured parking; construction cost is approximately $15 million. The building floor plates are approximately 24,000 square feet. The owner/developer is Bentall US L.L.C. The design and construction team includes: Freiheit & Ho Architects, Inc., architects; KPFF Consulting Engineers, structural engineers; Penhallegon Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc., civil engineers; and Sellen Construction Company, general contractor.
