In response to increased Banyan customer demand for remote access, Banyan will offer customers Attachmate's Remote LAN Node as its "preferred remote access solution." RLN is the industry's most innovative and successful remote access product for VINES and StreetTalk environments. Both Banyan and Attachmate will offer users of Banyan's existing remote access solution -- PC Dial In -- a direct migration path to RLN.

"The need for remote access is critical to the Banyan user community," said Steve Armour of Consolidated Freightways Consolidated Freight was the 3rd biggest trucking company in the US. Windows Connectivity for Banyan Base and Advanced Gateways

With its recent release of EXTRA! Personal Client 6.1, EXTRA! for Windows 4.3 and EXTRA! Office Client, Attachmate also announced Windows desktop support for Banyan's legacy 3270 SNA services. Attachmate is providing the industry's only Windows connectivity solution in this environment. This support addresses the needs of a very large base of Banyan users who previously were limited only to DOS-based connectivity by providing state of the art 3270 client support. Attachmate has helped extend the life of the Base and Advanced product, allowing customers to further leverge their investments. All the capabilities of Attachmate's Windows connectivity are now available to users of the Base and Advanced Gateways, including point-and-click host data access and seamless integration with desktop graphical applications and tools. By supporting StreetTalk, these products also allow companies to automate user configuration and fault tolerance.

"We have about 1,500 users in our Banyan network, most of whom need to access the mainframe," said Cliff Baumbach, director of MIS for the First Judicial District in Philadelphia. "This offering of a Windows client to connect the Banyan Base and Advanced Gateways will allow us to protect our existing investment."
