BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1995--Attachmate Corp., a leading provider of enterprise connectivity solutions, announced the North American introduction of their new SELECT! family of direct database access products.

With first shipments of the stand-alone product scheduled this month, Attachmate's SELECT! products provide Windows and OS/2 users with powerful database querying capabilities, and furnish IS managers with the necessary security and management tools to supervise and control end user access to corporate data.

The SELECT! family provides access to a wide variety of relational databases and allows users to perform queries and create reports directly from one or multiple databases, perform database to database transfers, and dynamically import host database information directly into popular desktop applications. Attachmate's SELECT! technology will be initially available in three different implementations: a query tool bundled into selected Attachmate connectivity products, a standalone, feature-rich and powerful direct database access solution, and - most importantly - a customizable security and data dictionary utility for managing user views and access to data.

Powerful AS/400 Database Access Tool -- DBQuery

SELECT! technology is available as a feature in the newest version of Attachmate's RALLY! for AS/400 - the company's premium Windows-to-AS/400 product. RALLY! DBQuery provides high performance, point-and-click direct database access. The query information can be easily placed into any number of popular PC applications, including Microsoft Excel, Lotus, Word and dBase.

Standalone Enterprise Database Access -- SELECT! Professional

SELECT! Professional provides native, DRDA and ODBC driver support for a wide range of databases including OS/400, DB2, SQL/DS, Sybase SQL Server and Oracle, as well as support of ODBC-compliant databases. Data can be directly exported into leading PC applications including Lotus, Excel, dBase, Paradox, AmiPro, Word, Quattro Pro and WordPerfect. SELECT!'s high performance ODBC connectivity for direct access to AS/400 or DRDA databases like DB2 make this information available to enterprise client/server development environments like PowerBuilder, Visual Basic, C++, etc. Expensive database "middleware" gateway solutions, which are difficult to implement and maintain, are no longer needed. Performance is maximized as database access with SELECT! Professional is direct to the source. SELECT!-generated queries can be turned into objects which can be embedded within other applications, thereby maximizing productivity through integration and re-use of data results and queries. To further improve user productivity, the SELECT! Direct facility provides pre-defined, customized "packaged" queries to SELECT! Professional users with limited knowledge of database structures or query processes. Users immediately benefit from the power and performance of SELECT!.

Security and Data Dictionary Functions -- SELECT! Supervisor

SELECT! Supervisor, available in April, will provide IS managers and administrators with a powerful security tool to customize and limit access rights to AS/400 and DB2 databases, or even certain fields within these systems. Powerful Data Dictionary functions simplify end-user access and improve productivity by replacing cryptic, complex terms with intuitive, understandable information. SELECT! Supervisor's security features compliment and expand upon current host security programs too. Authorization Limits can be assigned to the table, field or partial field level. Real-time Security Updates ensure up-to-the-minute security and protection of valuable enterprise information. SELECT! Supervisor provides support for users of SELECT! Professional or DBQuery.
