Atrus Names Cardiovascular Medical Device Industry Veteran, Richard O. Martin, to Board of Directors; Former President of Medtronic Physio-Control Corp. Joins Emergency Response Technology Company.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Atrus, Inc., today announced that Richard O. Martin, Ph.D., has joined its board of directors. Martin brings more than two decades of experience leading Fortune 500 companies in the cardiovascular medical device industry. Founded in 2004, Atrus develops emergency response technologies targeted at expanding the reach of 911 dispatchers to enable faster lifesaving automated external defibrillator (AED) response within the community.

Martin became president of Physio-Control Corporation, the worldwide leader in external defibrillation, monitoring and noninvasive pacing devices, in 1991 when the company was part of Eli Lilly and Company's Medical Devices and Diagnostics Division. He successfully instituted company-wide quality improvement programs, rebuilt the management team and took the company public. Martin retired in 2001 as president of Medtronic Physio-Control Corp. Previously, Martin was the vice president for cardiovascular business development at Sulzermedica, Inc. He also held several senior positions in engineering, marketing and sales with Intermedics, Inc., and was named president and COO of that company in 1985.

Martin has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Duke University, an MSEE from Notre Dame and a BSEE from Christian Brothers College. He taught at Christian Brothers College and the University of Tennessee before joining the corporate world. Martin has served on the board and as chairman of the Northwest affiliate of the American Heart Association. He also held board and chairman positions for the Medial Device Manufacturers Association and the Washington Council of AeA (formerly American Electronics Association). In addition to his Atrus board appointment, Martin currently serves on the boards of CardioDynamics International, Encore Orthopedics, Inovise Medical, MDdatacor, Cardiac Dimensions, and Endo Gastric Solutions (formerly EsophyX).
