Atmos Energy Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert W. Best said that customers can now "round-up" their payment to the next highest dollar amount with the difference going directly to the "Sharing the Warmth" program. Atmos Energy's "Sharing the Warmth" program supports approximately 2,000 community energy-assistance agencies nationwide. These agencies use federal funding and customers' donations to help the elderly, the disabled and low-income families pay their energy bills. The total funds distributed last year accounted for about one-fifth of the annual energy costs of low-income customers. "Last season, our customers donated more than $370,000 through 'Sharing the Warmth,' which when combined with our donation of $500,000, meant that some $870,000 went toward helping people pay their gas bills. We think that this new 'round-up' program will enable us to greatly expand that support," Best said. "Our goal is to double the amount the Sharing the Warmth program raised from customers last year."
