Atmel and Green Hills Software Announce INTEGRITY Board Support Package for the AT91RM9200 ARM-based Microcontroller.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

ROUSSET, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2003

INTEGRITY(R) Real Time Operating System A master control program that can provide immediate response to input signals and transactions. See real time system and embedded Linux.  Provides Maximum

Functionality and Security with Minimal OS Overhead

Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML ATML Automatic Test Markup Language
ATML Automated Test Markup Language
) and Green Hills(R) Software Inc. announced today the availability of a Green Hills Software INTEGRITY(R) Board Support Package (BSP BSP

) for Atmel's AT91RM9200 ARM-based microcontroller. The INTEGRITY port provides maximum functionality and security at a minimal OS overhead by fully exploiting the advanced features of the AT91RM9200 architecture such as the Memory Management Unit (MMU), Advanced Interrupt Controller (AIC AIC Association des Infermières Canadiennes. ) and on-chip DMA capabilities. Benefits to the programmer include a deterministic response to critical events, a fully protected virtual address space and minimum interrupt latency.

INTEGRITY delivers maximum responsiveness and determinism by utilizing the AT91RM9200 fast context switching features, running with interrupts continuously enabled and by guaranteeing access to the CPU CPU

and memory for critical tasks. In addition, by utilizing the AT91RM9200 MMU, INTEGRITY builds a firewall between the kernel and user tasks that prevents errant or malicious code from corrupting other user tasks or the kernel.

INTEGRITY is tightly integrated with the MULTI MULTI Multiple (R) Integrated Development Environment See IDE.

integrated development environment - interactive development environment
(IDE), which, together with Green Hills Software's family of C/C++/EC++ optimizing compilers, automates all aspects of embedded Atmel software development. MULTI features an INTEGRITY-aware source-level debugger, graphical program builder, run-time error checker, version control system, and performance profiler. MULTI also features an INTEGRITY simulator (ISIM ISIM IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) Subscriber Identity Module
ISIM Institute for the Study of International Migration
ISIM Integrated Science Instrument Module (James Webb Space Telescope)
), which enables programmers to develop and test their code on a PC or workstation without the need for target hardware; and a real-time EventAnalyzer(TM), which enables users to view system and user events in a graphical display.

INTEGRITY is a royalty-free, state-of-the-art real-time operating system (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications.  designed for modern 32- and 64-bit embedded processors. It is aimed at high-reliability, always-on applications in telecommunications, defense, networking and medical equipment.

The AT91RM9200 is built around the ARM920T(TM) 200+ MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  advanced 32-bit RISC RISC

Jacko Wilbrink, Atmel's ARM-based Product Manager commented, "Porting INTEGRITY onto the AT91RM9200 at the time of its release enables design engineers to make an immediate start on their application developments. By taking care of prioritization, scheduling and memory management issues INTEGRITY significantly reduces the development time for applications and leads to a better-quality result. This port also indicates the level of confidence of one of our market-leading software partners in Atmel's first ARM920T-based standard product."

"Through our 5-year partnership, Green Hills Software and Atmel have collaborated together to offer customers optimized, royalty-free solutions based around the popular AT91 family," said John Carbone, vice president of marketing at Green Hills Software. "Green Hills is very pleased to help Atmel launch their impressive new AT91RM9200 and expect customers to highly value the part's advanced features, high speed and low power consumption."
