) converter, and a Programmable Dual Clock System allowing advanced mastering of speed and power consumption.

This new microcontroller includes a full Programmable Counter Array (PCA (tool, programming) PCA - A dynamic analyser from DEC giving information on run-time performance and code use. ) for Pulse Width Modulation See PWM.  (PWM), Capture/Compare, Timers, Counters and Watchdog capabilities, as well as an industry-standard Serial Peripheral Interface (communications, hardware) Serial Peripheral Interface - (SPI) A serial interface in which a master device supplies clock pulses to exchanges data serially with a slave over two data wires (Master-Slave and Slave-Master).  (SPI). They are perfectly suited to applications which require optimization of power consumption and component count, such as industrial process control and consumer appliances.

Dual System Clock allows Real Time Clock (RTC See real time clock. ) function using 32 KHz and one timer. It integrates an internal RC oscillator at 12 MHz, a programmable prescaler and works both with a reference crystal or a ceramic oscillator of 32 KHz or 4 to 33 MHz.

The T8xC5111/12 A/D converter can accept an external positive voltage ranging from 2.4 V to Vcc. It also includes an internal positive voltage reference of 2.4 V. The internal voltage reference can also be used externally reducing the need for external component.

According to Manish Vadher, Marketing Director for Microcontrollers, "With an extended range of on-chip peripherals, such as ADC (1) See A/D converter.

(2) (Apple Display Connector) A peripheral connector from Apple that combines digital video display, USB and power in one cable.
, SPI, PCA and RTC, the T8xC5111/12 offers cost effective solutions for industrial control, games and consumer applications that require advanced integration, low consumption and low cost."

The T8xC5111 and T8xC5112 feature respectively 4Kbytes and 8Kbytes of ROM or OTP memory and 256 Bytes of RAM. Both ROM and OTPs benefit from the Secured ROM Check (SRM) with 64 Bytes encryption array and 3 security levels.

The Low Pin Count versions (T8xC5111) featuring up to 20 I/Os, and 4 Kbytes of ROM (T83C5111) or OTP (T87C5111) are housed in 16-pin SSOP, 24-pin DIL or 24-pin SO.

Extended I/O versions (T8xC5112) feature up to 40 I/Os, and 8 Kbytes of ROM (T83C5112) or OTP (T87C5112) are housed in a 52-pin PLCC or 48-pin LQFP.

The devices are available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Automotive range is to be introduced later. Products operate at 66 MHz at 5 Volt or 40 MHz at 3 Volt. Volume production and samples are available now.

Pricing for a T87C5111 in a 24-pin PDIL starts at $2.2 each and $1.5 each for T83C5111 for 100K units.
