Atmel developed the Firmware Hub Family under license from Intel to ensure exact compatibility. The devices have uniform 64-Kbyte sectors and feature automated byte-program and sector-erase operations. Two configurable interfaces are supported: (1) Firmware Hub mode for in-system operation, and (2) Address/Address Multiplexed (A/A Mux) mode to accelerate memory array programming during manufacturing. The devices are offered in industry standard 40-lead TSOP (Thin Small Outline Package) A very thin, plastic, rectangular surface mount chip package with gull-wing pins on its two short sides. TSOPs are about a third as thick as SOJ chips. See gull-wing lead, SOP, SOJ and chip package.  and 32-lead PLCC (Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier) A plastic, square, surface mount chip package that contains leads on all four sides. The leads (pins) extend down and back under and into tiny indentations in the housing. See chip package.  surface mount packages.
