Atmel Adds Improved Features to its CAMELIA Family of Digital Imaging Systems.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

GRENOBLE, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 2003

CAMELIA M1 8M and CAMELIA C1 8M Digital Cameras Now Provide

12-Bit Black and White or Color Images at 8 Megapixels

Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML ATML Automatic Test Markup Language

The CAMELIA M1 8M (black and white) and CAMELIA C1 8M (color), based on a large format (close to 35mm film size) progressive scan CCD CCD

Semiconductor device in which the individual semiconductor components are connected so that the electrical charge at the output of one device provides the input to the next device.
featuring 2300 (H) x 3500 (V) or 8 million square pixels, has been improved on electro-optical performance, in particular by reducing power consumption, using a new front panel and an internal heat sink. The electronic modules in the camera has been redesigned to provide new features. CAMELIA C1 8M delivers a very high sensitivity and excellent color reproduction thanks to the use of new color filters.

Performance and reliability of this CAMELIA 8M make it well suited for the most demanding applications like film and document scanning, microscopy and cell biology semiconductor and PCB PCB: see polychlorinated biphenyl.

CAMELIA M1 8M and CAMELIA C1 8M capture and deliver 12 bit image data with a dedicated electronic image processor module, featuring an excellent signal to noise ratio.

The CCD sensor is able to work in 1x1, 2x2, 4x4 binning mode and in ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  mode (Region of Interest). These features allow faster preview mode from 2.7 frames/second up to 9 frames/second.

On both models, the programmable settings allow the user to select different integration time, gain and offset. External trigger enables synchronising the camera on external event. The CAMELIA M1 8M provides Black and White images but can be used in tri-shot color mode allowing very high color resolution acquisition. The CAMELIA C1 8M uses a color CCD (bayer filter), and offers 4 programmable color gains to allow an hardware white balance correction thus avoiding additional software processing

The complete CAMELIA 8M system is delivered with user-friendly application and interface software, and supports Camera Link(TM), a new imaging industry standard for serial interface. With Camera Link, the system designer can access all data synchronisation and total camera control with a unique and standard cable. The CAMELIA 8M family also includes a parallel LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) A transmission method for sending digital information. LVDS sends data over data high and data low lines rather than data and ground.  (Low Voltage Differential (hardware) Low Voltage Differential - (LVD) A method of driving SCSI cables that will be formalised in the SCSI-3 specifications. LVD uses less power than the current differential drive (HVD), is less expensive and will allow the higher speeds of Ultra-2 SCSI. LVD requires 3.  Signaling) version, which allows the use of longer cable.
